The following is a list of commonly asked questions by brides and grooms. If you have any questions in regards to formal wear, or weddings in general, please e-mail us and we will be happy to answer your queries. Question: How early should I be booking tuxedos for my wedding? Answer: When wondering how early you should book your tuxedo, there are many factors to consider. First, you must think about the time of year you are planning your wedding. During the peak season, between April and September, it is a good idea to book well in advance, at least two to three months ahead of time. It is important to remember that in a province with a climate like ours, a majority of weddings take place within a six month span. This translates into a high demand for the garments available in the store in a very short period of time. The earlier you book, the better chance you will have of not only getting what you want in the size you need, but also the other members of the wedding party will have plenty of time to reserve the required sizes in the tuxedos and accessories you have chosen for them. Due to graduation, June is an especially demanding month for tuxedo rentals and anyone planning a wedding in the latter half of the month should give themselves extra time to ensure everything they require will be available. Also, we are more than happy to bring in special orders - vests for the groomsmen in a colour that would match PERFECTLY with the bridesmaids dresses for example - but we need ample time to guarantee the items you have requested will reach our store before your event. Finally, if you are wondering how early you should book your tuxedo, remember this: It is never TOO EARLY to finalize the details. The colours and styles you choose are never set in stone and can be changed at any time provided it is available for your wedding day. Question: Should the groom wear something different than the groomsmen? Answer: Traditionally, the groom and the groomsmen wear exactly the same outfits. This is mostly because of superstition - the "spirits" cannot play nasty tricks on the groom if they are unable to differentiate him from the groomsmen. However, it is much more common today for the groom to look different from his groomsmen. The most popular way for the groom to stand out from the rest is by choosing a particular vest colour for the groomsmen to wear, usually matching the bridesmaids, and having the groom wear something different. Often times the groom will wear a black, white, ivory, silver, or gold vest and tie - something neutral to compliment his bride's wedding dress. Another way for the groom to stand out is by wearing a different coat than his groomsmen. Although we recommend that the general styles be similar, it is perfectly acceptable for the groom to wear what he looks and feels best in while having his groomsmen wear a simpler version of the chosen style. Question: Do the groomsmen have to wear vests that match the colour of the bridesmaids? Answer: It is most common for groomsmen to wear accessories that match the bridesmaid's dresses however, this isn't always possible. When the dress colour and the vest colour are the same it provides beautiful group pictures, showing the wedding party as a coherent group. If the colour of the gown chosen is less common, you may be faced with a challenge when searching for a perfect match. Using complimentary colours, accent colours, or very similar shades of the colour in question are among the options you have. Also, classic black and white is always a nice choice. If you decide to go with neutral hues you can bring the wedding party colours in by way of flowers, or handkerchiefs. Question: I am planning on having a tropical wedding. Should I still rent a tuxedo? Answer: Whether your wedding is big or small, near or far, it is still considered a very important event that will be caught on film to be cherished forever. One important question to ask yourself is, "what is the bride wearing?" If the bride is planning on wearing a wedding gown, it is safe to say that you should compliment her formality by wearing a tuxedo. There are many ways to wear a tuxedo - the days of baby blue, velvet-edged ruffled tuxedos have moved aside (although if you REALLY want this look...) to make room for the traditional and contemporary styles of today. High buttoning coats, pants without satin stripes down the sides of the leg and four-in-hand neck ties are a few of the newer trends that demonstrate the versatility of formal wear. Question: I am getting married in the middle of the summer! Won't a tuxedo be too hot? Answer: We will not lie - tuxedos are warm in the sweltering summer months but it is more bearable than you think. After the ceremony and pictures are finished you can remove the coat and still look dapper in a tuxedo shirt, vest and tie. Some people make the mistake of thinking wool will be too hot and so they opt for a polyester or polyester blend tuxedo instead. This is not a good idea. The great thing about wool is that it breathes. Polyester is a synthetic fabric that does not allow the warmth of your body to escape. The fabric is quite scratchy and very often has a shininess to it that you will not find with the 100%, wool tuxedos. Question: Do I HAVE to wear a vest with my tuxedo? Answer: The first rule of formal wear is there are no rules! In today's day and age people are afforded the luxury of choosing whether or not they wish to follow the edicts of etiquette. We believe people should feel their best for one of the most important days of their lives. One of the easiest ways to feel good, is to look good, and everyone looks fantastic in a tuxedo. Although all tuxedos come with a cummerbund in your chosen colour, vests are definitely the preferred accessory choice of today. There are many benefits to wearing a full back vest rather than the backless style or a cummerbund. First, when the tuxedo jacket is done up you can still see the vest colour underneath. This looks great for group shots as it congregates the groomsmen with the bridesmaids, bringing that much more attention to the newly married couple. Also, as the day progresses, tuxedo coats may become warm and cumbersome. With a full-back vest, the groom and groomsmen can remove their jackets and still look neat, tidy and formal. The backless style vests and cummerbunds only cover a portion of the body and leave the back completely open. Every time the groom sits down his shirt is pulled looser. With an open back, his tuxedo shirt may begin to billow out and look a little "puffy." The full-back vest does a great job of keeping everything together. Finally, contrary to popular belief, a full-back vest will not be "too hot". The fabric on the back of the vests is very thin and will hardly be noticed. Tuxedo Lapel Styles.
